3 AEW Stars Who Might Retire By The End Of Year 2023

2 years ago By Sports Desk

In the world of professional wrestling, careers can be both physically demanding and emotionally fulfilling. As All Elite Wrestling (AEW) continues to make its mark on the wrestling landscape, several veteran superstars may be contemplating retirement by the end of 2023.

1. Paul Wight, The Big Show

Paul Wight, formerly known as The Big Show during his extensive tenure with WWE, made a surprising move to AEW in February 2021. Despite his legendary status, injuries have limited his in-ring appearances in AEW. At 50 years old and considering his size, it’s becoming more likely that Wight may choose to retire from active competition in 2023. AEW President Tony Khan has praised Wight’s presence on commentary, suggesting a future in that role.

2. Matt Hardy, The ‘Broken’ One

Matt Hardy’s journey in AEW has seen him transition from his iconic broken persona to a managerial role within the Hardy Family Office. While his career in AEW has been a mixed bag, there’s a sense that the 48-year-old may be slowing down in the ring. Legal troubles and an underwhelming storyline have somewhat dampened his recent run. It’s plausible that 2023 could mark the end of Matt Hardy’s in-ring career, with a potential return to the ‘Broken’ character as a farewell.

3. Dustin Rhodes, The Natural

Dustin Rhodes, a veteran with a career resurgence in AEW, has announced his intention to retire from in-ring competition in 2023. In an interview, he revealed that his AEW contract would expire in July, and he’s seeking an end date for his wrestling career. Dustin expressed his desire to transition into a coaching role and occasionally make on-screen appearances. With a career spanning over 30 years, the 53-year-old deserves recognition and a well-deserved retirement.

While the future remains uncertain, these three AEW stars have made significant contributions to the world of professional wrestling. Whether they decide to retire or continue in different roles within the industry, their legacies are cemented, and fans will continue to cherish their memorable moments in the squared circle.
