3 Talking Points From Tonight’s Episode of AEW Dynamite, October 10, 2023

In the world of professional wrestling, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) continues to captivate fans with its thrilling matches, compelling storylines, and a roster filled with talent from around the world. The AEW Dynamite episode that aired on October 10, 2023, was no exception, delivering a night of action, drama, and surprises. In this article, we will delve into three major talking points from this exciting episode.

Kingston and Suzuki’s Chop Fest

The opening contest of the evening featured Eddie Kingston defending his ROH World and NJPW Strong Openweight titles against the legendary Minoru Suzuki. From the first bell, it was clear that this match would be a hard-hitting, brutal encounter.

Suzuki and Kingston engaged in a chop fest that had the audience on the edge of their seats. Both competitors showcased their resilience as they absorbed and dished out thunderous chops. Eddie Kingston displayed incredible selling, buckling to a knee under the relentless assault from Suzuki. However, the Japanese wrestling icon suggested transitioning to head strikes, and with a single forearm, he put Kingston down for the count.

This match wasn’t just about chops; it showcased the mat-based offence of the legendary veteran Suzuki. The action in the ring saw Kingston and Suzuki locking horns, and the fans were treated to an exciting encounter. Interestingly, no one attempted a pinfall during this segment of the match, adding an element of unpredictability to the contest.

Kingston mounted a comeback with a series of chops that left Suzuki’s chest bright red, earning him the nickname “Crazy Grandpa Jones.” However, Suzuki was unfazed and retaliated with a flurry of strikes targeting Kingston’s head and midsection. Schiavone pointed out that the lack of pinfall attempts added a unique layer to this hard-hitting battle.

The match continued with a rear chinlock from Suzuki, but Kingston managed to roll through and get back to his feet. A Gotch-style suplex was countered into a flip, but a follow-up backfist barely secured a one-count. The match culminated in another intense chop exchange, but Kingston ultimately gained the upper hand with a Northern Lights bomb to secure the victory and retain his titles.

Danielson vs. Strickland delivers

The AEW Dynamite episode also featured a high-stakes match between Bryan Danielson and Swerve Strickland, with the winner earning a shot at Christian Cage’s TNT championship.

The contest began with an early mat-based exchange, reminiscent of amateur wrestling, with both wrestlers vying for holds. The action quickly intensified as they exchanged slaps to the face, creating an atmosphere akin to a classic Ring of Honour (ROH) match from 2005. The back-and-forth between Danielson and Strickland displayed their in-ring chemistry.

Danielson ended up backed into the ring post, but Strickland followed up with a back drop onto the edge of the ring and a diving forearm off the middle rope. The impact left Danielson with a possible rib injury, adding a layer of realism to the match.

Strickland’s attempt at a crossface chickenwing transitioned into a backbreaker, but his showboating gave Danielson an opportunity to counter with a splash. The American Dragon began targeting Strickland’s right arm, and the two exchanged hard-hitting strikes.

Despite a stiff battle between the two, Danielson ultimately secured the victory with a well-timed roll-up, earning himself a TNT championship opportunity in the upcoming collision event.

New Champions and Championship Matches

One of the most significant developments of the evening was the change in the international championship landscape. Due to Jon Moxley’s inability to compete, Orange Cassidy received a title rematch against Rey Fenix. The match was marked by an intense exchange of strikes in the centre of the ring. Despite a banged-up Fenix attempting to end the contest quickly, Cassidy showed his determination.

The match saw both competitors fight outside the ring, with Cassidy whipping Fenix into barricades and ring posts multiple times. Cassidy’s relentless attack was a testament to his resolve and desire to capture the international championship.

The turning point of the match occurred when Cassidy managed to slam Fenix onto the apron, leading to a DDT and an orange punch that secured him his second international championship.

Hikaru Shida also had the opportunity to reclaim the AEW Women’s World Championship as she faced Saraya. However, the match took an unexpected turn when Ruby Soho intervened, preventing Saraya from using spray paint. Toni Storm, who had previously been a teammate of Soho’s, chased her away.

Shida seized the moment and regained the Women’s World Championship after countering a third Knight Cap into a Falcon’s Arrow. The match added an element of surprise and showcased the unpredictability of AEW’s women’s division.

The October 10, 2023, episode of AEW Dynamite delivered an exciting night of professional wrestling action. This episode served as a testament to AEW’s commitment to delivering compelling wrestling content.
