5 Possible Championship Matches That We Can See At Payback 2023

1 years ago By Jhon Woug

WWE Payback has generated hype and exposure similar to that of a big-budget Hollywood Action Movie. In this world controlled by Digital Media, the right news is hard to find and even harder to hide. With the Ring General set to defend his Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable next Monday (21.8.23) on Raw, here are five Championship matches that we can see at Payback:

  1. SETH ROLLINS VS SHINSUKE NAKAMURA

Starting off by addressing the Elephant in the room, we have Monday Night Rollins, who will look to defend the World Heavyweight Title against a Superstar who has The Messiah’s number of late: Shinsuke Nakamura. After two Kinshasas, the King of Strong Style got his shot at the gold, and we expect nothing but a 5-star match from two of the Best Wrestlers in The world, Period!

Rey Mysterio wins the United States Championship: SmackDown highlights, Aug. 11, 2023
  1. REY MYSTERIO VS. AUSTIN THEORY

Austin Theory is one Superstar who, at this point in his career, cannot be kept out of the Title Picture. Lifestyles change when you are not the Champion anymore and don’t have the Championship money anymore. The way the master of the 619 has kept himself going after so many years is still a miracle. His Son, Dirty Dom, is one of the biggest names around, but not in the manner that he would have wanted. Mysterio Sr. can break down, and bad luck may yet again hover over Santos Escobar, only to bring back the spotlight on Austin Theory.

  1. DOMINIK MYSTERIO VS WES LEE

The NXT North American Title will be on the line, with Wes Lee expected to meet the champion, Dominik Mysterio. This one will be a sure-shot blockbuster, and if inside sources from the WWE Performance Centre are to be believed, the former Impact Wrestling star will be the one to take the Title from Dirty Dom. Expect Judgement Day to play a key role in the outcome.

Gunther demands his match with Chad Gable be restarted: Raw highlights, July 31, 2023
  1. GUNTHER vs CHAD GABLE

But isn’t this already advertised for next week’s edition of Raw? It sure Is. With a Classic such as the one we have, there are no doubts that this Cake will be spoiled by the non-competing members of the Imperium who will get Gunther Disqualified, only to keep the Title and remain Intercontinental Champion. That will bring us toPayback, where this feud will be ended once and for all. The title may not exchange hands on next week’s Raw but may do so at WWE Payback.

  1. RHEA RIPLEY VS. RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ

Rhea Ripley is expected to defend the WWE Women’s World Championship at Payback against Raquel Rodriguez. This was a bout that was a fine deal back in SummerSlam but was left out by the creative. Raquel Rodriguez has been waiting to take out Mami and prove her superiority. With Judgement Day around the corner, this match may have just the right amount of sauce to be a cult classic.
