AEW Dynamite Draws Over 900K Views When Sting Dropped His Retirement Hint

2 years ago By Sports Desk

The wrestling community was excited after this week’s AEW Dynamite episode. Live from the Fort Bend Center in Rosenberg, Texas, the Wednesday night broadcast was a dramatic improvement from the previous week’s numbers. After a dip in viewership the week before, the promotion came back strong, impressively surging ahead.

AEW Dynamite, which moved back to its regular Wednesday slot after last week’s Title Tuesday, witnessed a substantial increase in viewership. According to figures provided by Wrestlenomics, an astounding average of 901,000 viewers tuned in to watch this week’s episode. To put that into perspective, it’s a whopping 48% increase from last week’s figures. Such numbers indicate the steady growth and popularity the promotion has been enjoying over time. What’s even more interesting is that out of this significant number, 405,000 viewers belonged to the 18-49 demographic. This particular age group saw an increase of 17% compared to last week.

The wrestling matches themselves were nothing short of exhilarating. The opening contest between Jay White and Penta El Zero was the highlight of the evening for many fans. The match, which was watched by most of the 18-49 demographic, ended with White clinching a victory in what can only be described as a classic wrestling encounter. This bout’s climax, in particular, had a substantial viewership, indicating the audience’s vested interest in the outcome.

The excitement didn’t end there. The night was packed with other noteworthy matches. The crowd witnessed Kenny Omega’s win over Kyle Fletcher, adding another feather to Omega’s already decorated cap. Hikaru Shida, another crowd favorite, emerged victorious against Emi Sakura in a bout that showcased both competitors’ wrestling prowess. Not to be outdone, Wardlow faced off against Ryan Nemeth and effortlessly squashed him, reaffirming his dominance in the ring.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for AEW Dynamite this week. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, the much-anticipated announcement from the wrestling legend Sting regarding his retirement didn’t capture as much attention as expected. Despite being advertised prominently, the segment couldn’t match the viewership of some of the night’s top matches.

Likewise, the Dynamite Dozen Battle Royal, the episode’s main event, experienced low viewership initially. Fans were on the edge of their seats by the end, though, especially when Juice Robinson emerged as the winner. The match’s end seemed to have drawn more eyes, making one wonder about the reasons behind the fluctuating viewership throughout the bout.

In summary, it was a mixed bag for AEW Dynamite this week. While certain segments and matches, like Jay White vs. Penta El Zero, stole the show and garnered impressive viewership, others, like Sting’s retirement announcement, didn’t live up to the hype. Nevertheless, the overall figures are very promising for the promotion. The substantial week-over-week increase, particularly among the 18-49 demographic, is a testament to AEW’s rising popularity and its ability to engage its audience effectively.

As the wrestling world continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how AEW will maintain its momentum in the coming weeks. With a blend of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, the promotion seems to be on the right track. Whether they can consistently deliver such impressive numbers will undoubtedly be a story to follow. For now, fans and followers can rejoice in what was undoubtedly an excellent week for Wednesday Night Dynamite.
