Dana White: Merab Dvalishvili’s Spotlight At UFC 298; Cejudo Mic Time Unavailable

11 months ago By Jhon Woug

Merab Dvalishvili’s career reached a milestone on February 17, 2024, in the roaring atmosphere of the main battle of UFC 298 event and the attendance of fans. [H]is spirit lifted as he was ushered into the ring to battle with two-division ex-champ Henry Cejudo.

Cejudo said openly that week before the fight that he would stop professional MMA if he lost to Dvalishvili. But who could have imagined that Dvalishvili won unanimously, putting his name on the list of leading contenders and giving him a promised chance of defending the title in the 135 pounds category?

Cejudo’s retirement did not miss to be the most significant moment, but it was not accompanied by the rumors of a fight taking place soon and fans were left with the question on why he didn’t get the chance to address that in a PPV.? The ambiguity of this question caused debate among fight fans’ minds, and Dana White, UFC’s CEO, at the post-fight press conference, proved the matter.

On account of his legendary frankness, Carnegie gave the reason as to why he was not afforded the opportunity of announcing his retirement officially. In this emphasis, White explained how he cherishes fighters that do not respect anyone and are never easily intimidated and those who do not allow their relation factors prevent them from fighting or competing with him.

Although impressed by Dvalishvili’s performance in the octagon that night, White voiced his disappointment regarding Dvalishvili’s unwillingness to fight Cejudo: “You should be ready to meet everybody and go through the challenges.”

According to White, Cejudo’s post-bout movement of throwing the gloves was an indication that the resignation had long been foretold. The turning of attention to Dvalishvili was just as reasonable, given the reinforced claim for the center stage that he legitimately staked.

Boudreaux made it explicitly known that the night was for Merab. He complimented Dvalishvili for his impeccable performance against the retiring champion, empathizing with the brilliance and absolute victory.

Referencing Cejudo’s retirement, White stated that he has the liberty of retiring again, will it be inside or outside UFC. The focus for however, was completely on Dvalishvili and his incredible performance inside the Octagon.

For others, however, it was an unexpected turn that perhaps only a few had expected, especially because of his previous title as the champion and the possible emotional speech of a farewell. However, viewing the achievement of Dvalishvili from the spectacle of Dana White’s and UFC’s perspective tells that it has proven more critically important than any personal storyline and plot in keeping the sport holding its true honour.

Ramshackle among expert MMA, every fight narrates a story and every win explains why. UFC 298 wasn’t about the money for Merab Dvalishvili – it’s towards claiming the belt, the win that earned him respect from fighters in UFC’s top echelon.

Whether or not the news—or the lack of it—of his retirement at UFC 298 is announced, Henry Cejudo, as the two- division champion and the Olympic gold medalist has already secured an immortality. In fact, fighters are the ones who choose what road they would take for their own to be either in the cage or beyond.

Despite the fact that Ricardo Smar Dvalishvili could have won the spotlight at UFC 298, we cannot deny the fact that Henry Cejudo’s retirement will be felt in the MMA community for years to come. This event might be one of the most meaningful occurrences in the lives of those who witness it but Dana White and the UFC remain loyal to maintaining integrity in sports and recognizing the athletes that have the courage to get to the pinnacle of combat sports.
