Sean O’Malley on Ian Garry claiming no one was tuning in to UFC 292 to watch ‘Sugar’

1 years ago By Sports Desk

Sean O’Malley recently weighed on Ian Garry’s comments at th UFC 292 pre-fight press conference.

At the UFC 292 pre-fight press conference, the fast-rising middleweight contender opined that he was the biggest draw of UFC 292 and that no one planned to watch O’Malley fight Sterling. Garry was booked to fight Neil Magny on the same card. While ‘The Future’ is undoubtedly among the most exciting fighters to watch, his comments were perceived as distasteful by many.

In a recent episode of the TimboSugarShow podcast, Sean O’Malley weighed in on Ian Garry’s comments. While ‘Suga’ empathized with Garry and admitted to making similar comments on his way up, he speculated that ‘The Future’ was angry at him for lambasting his manager, Lloyd Pierson.

For context, Pierson made some disparaging comments about Garry’s initial opponent Geoff Neal. Neal was forced to pull out of the bout due to injury two weeks before the event.

Opening up about what Ian Garry claimed, O’Malley stated:

“I get it, you gotta be a little delusional. I said some s**t like that probably too, like when I was on pay-per-view [cards]… He was so mad. It was because I shared his video of Lloyd, his manager, saying that Geoff Neal pulled out ’cause his p***y hurts… He posted it, I just reshared it… Shed some light on it. Now he’s f**king upset.”

Merab Dvalishvili calls out Sean O’Malley for a title fight in December

With Aljamain Sterling no longer the bantamweight champion, Merab Dvalishvili is chomping at the bit for a title shot. ‘The Machine’ recently challenged O’Malley for a showdown in December and promised to show up even if he’s injured.

In the aftermath of O’Malley’s incredible second-round knockout win against Sterling, the 28-year-old used the post-fight octagon interview to call out Marlon Vera for a rematch in December.

However, should the UFC decide against it, ‘Suga’ has two more legitimate contenders waiting in line. The ‘Funk Master’ has called for an immediate rematch against O’Malley and made it clear that if he’s denied that, his teammate and close friend Dvalishvili should be next in line. ‘The Machine’ notably stayed away from the title picture out of respect for his friendship with Sterling.

In an interview with Aaron Bronsteter of TSN Sports, Dvalishvili was asked about fighting Sean O’Malley this year. He stated:

“One thousand percent, I will be ready… The doctor just told me I can start training. I can start slowly punching and grappling, but even fight is next month, I would be ready… I’m just going to ignore the pain and I’m just going to fight. Definitely December I will be ready.”

He continued:

”Hey Sean, respect for you. You should rematch Aljo or you should fight me… You should fight only for the best. Me and Aljo, we are the best here in this division… Everybody knows I’m a real contender and Aljamain Sterling, he’s a great champion and he deserves the rematch.”
