WWE Adds Edge Into The Internal Roster But Not As An Active Performer

1 years ago By Sports Desk

The professional wrestling community was abuzz recently with the news that WWE legend Edge, real name Adam Copeland, has been removed from the organization’s internal roster following the expiration of his contract. This move comes just a month after Edge’s momentous match with Sheamus at SmackDown in Toronto. Notably, this match marked a quarter-century since Edge’s debut with the WWE and was also the culmination of his current deal.

Edge’s illustrious career has been nothing short of iconic, highlighted by a triumphant comeback to the ring in 2020 after a nearly decade-long hiatus due to significant neck problems. However, the end of his recent contract and the news that his demands have not been met by the WWE have cast a shadow over his future. Rumors have been swirling about a potential move to the rival group, All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

PWInsider’s recent report confirms that Edge has been delisted from both RAW and Smackdown rosters. Interestingly, this doesn’t mean his association with WWE has come to an end. Edge has been reintegrated into the roster, albeit in a different capacity. He is now slotted under ‘miscellaneous’ talent, which essentially categorizes personalities not actively partaking in either of the series. This repositioning aligns Edge with other renowned personalities like Steve Austin, Big E, Undertaker, Titus O’Neill, and Braun Strowman. These stars, while not presently wrestling, are still affiliated with the WWE.

The intricacies of the contract negotiations between Edge and WWE remain largely private. However, as per PWTorch’s insights, Edge approached WWE with specific terms he felt essential for a renewed contract. WWE, however, seemed reluctant to accede to these demands. This reluctance, combined with Edge’s demotion to a non-active performer status, has sparked widespread speculation. Industry insiders and fans alike are wondering if this heralds Edge’s shift to AEW, which has been growing exponentially both in terms of talent and viewership.

Adding fuel to this speculative fire is Tony Khan, AEW’s president. Khan’s admiration for the Canadian wrestler is no secret in wrestling circles. Furthermore, Edge’s ties to AEW aren’t just limited to Khan’s appreciation. AEW presently boasts Edge’s longtime friend and former tag-team companion, Christian Cage, as one of their top talents. Fans nostalgically recall the last time the duo collaborated inside the ring in 2011, right before Edge’s first retirement.

Beyond Christian Cage, Edge also shares a profound personal and professional rapport with Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood, AEW’s reigning tag-team champions. Wheeler and Harwood played pivotal roles in training and assisting Edge in gearing up for his 2020 comeback.

A significant point of contention and interest for many is the unknown terms of Edge’s contract, particularly regarding a potential no-compete clause. Such a clause could thwart or delay Edge’s debut in AEW, should he choose to make that move.

As the professional wrestling community waits with bated breath, Edge’s next move remains shrouded in mystery. Whether he chooses to rekindle old alliances in AEW, carve a new path in another organization, or assume a behind-the-scenes role in WWE, his legacy as one of the industry’s finest is undeniable. Regardless of his decision, his fans across the globe will undoubtedly support the Rated-R Superstar in his next chapter.
