WWE Raw Results & Report: Winners, Losers And Analysis – 21 August 2023

2 years ago By Jhon Woug

This week’s Raw took us to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, where the Intercontinental Championship was on the line. Each superstar looks to outdo the other as they look to make their way into WWE Payback with a bang. The Canada tour for WWE has proved to be a grand success for the company, and with their attendance record already shattered for Wrestlemania XL, Raw was going to be all the more wild.

Last week on Raw, Chad Gable was getting ready to take out the Ring General from all corners, and this week he got his title shot. Though worthy of a PPV bout, WWE these days, just like in old times, is giving fans PPV content on weekly television. Here are the matches that defined this week’s episode:

  1. Riddle & Drew McIntyre vs. New Day

Matt Riddle teamed with the Scottish Warrior to take on a returning Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston. The New Day kept Drew McIntyre out of the match pretty much the entire time. With Riddle cornered, the enigmatic tag team kept tagging each other to remain fresh. When McIntyre’s moment was about to come, he was taken out by the Viking Raiders. Erik kept Drew McIntyre away from his tag team partner, and this allowed the New Day to pick up the win.

Both teams were gassed out and immediately attacked by the Viking Raiders, who wanted to make a big impact and make their presence known. It may be noted that Drew McIntyre does not look too happy with the kind of storylines he has been in of late and deserves to be in the title picture as a singles competitor.

Winner: The New Day

  1. Rhea Ripley vs. Candice LeRae

Rhea Ripley carried on with her dominance as she made an example of Candice LeRae. Rhea Ripley made quick work of her opponent as Mami submitted Candice LeRae with an elevated inverted clover leaf.

After the match, Raquel Rodriguez came to the ring with a stick for assistance. Mami unknowingly mocked her and paid the price as Rodriguez threw the stick in the air to conclude she was fine. She sent Mami Packing back to Dirty Dom and laid her claim as the No. 1 contender for Rhea Ripley’s title.

WINNER: RHEA RIPLEY

  1. The Miz vs. Akira Tozawa

The A-Lister has his head elsewhere, right from the bell. The Miz was not liking the fact that current sensation LA Knight had come to join the commentary desk and distract the A-Lister. Akira Tozawa was having none of it and took advantage midway by rolling up a distracted Miz into the cover for the victory.

The Miz is being bothered time and again by the LA Knight Express. The most must-see WWE Superstar is not liking the fact that he now holds 2nd place on the charts behind the new fruit in the market, LA Knight.

WINNER: AKIRA TOZAWA

  1. Judgement Day vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens

Damian Priest and Finn Balor took no chances as they looked to keep their graph up going into Payback. It must be noted that though Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are accomplished singles competitors, they do form a great tag team too. The match was hanging in the balance when JD McDonagh looked to interfere and help Finn Balor with the briefcase, only for Kevin Owens to reverse the tide and hit Balor with it.

WINNER: JUDGEMENT DAY

  1. Judgement Day vs. Sami Zayn, KO, and Cody Rhodes

Adam Pearce made this one official, as there were six men in the ring. Amidst the chaos, Dominik Mysterio rose to the occasion, and it almost looked like a change in channel when he was on screen. The volume of boos and whistles just keeps getting louder. Damien Priest took out KO with a lariat, and the match looked set but for Dashing Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes changed the complexion of the match with Crossroads, followed by a helluva kick from Sami Zayn to Dirty Dom. Kevin Owens finished the scene with a picturesque stunner for Dominik Mysterio.

WINNERS: ZAYN, KO, and Cody Rhodes

Gunther Vs Chad Gable

Now for the big one—the match that all fans had been waiting for. Gunther vs. Chad Gable The Ring General showed no fear as he went toe-to-toe with the Olympian. Chad Gable has been on a mission to prove everyone wrong and reign supreme. It is this desire that has kept him going for so long. Gunther, fearing he may lose his gold, cunningly escaped the ring to be counted out and still keep his belt. Gunther knows every trick in the book, and as predicted on CombatSports247 previously, this one may only be settled at WWE Payback.

WINNER: CHAD GABLE
